  • I'm interested in receiving an evaluation. How do I begin the process?
The process starts by calling the office to schedule your initial intake appointment. If you are using insurance, please have this information ready when you call. You will then be emailed a link to intake paperwork and a mental health screener questionnaire to complete prior to your intake appointment. Please call: (360) 583-4900.
  • Do you have a waitlist?
Neeley Psychological Services has never utilized waitlists. We can get you scheduled as soon as you call the office. We generally have openings with a few weeks to 1-2 months, depending on a few factors. Please call my office to inquire about availability timeframe: (360) 583-4900.
  • Does insurance cover psychological evaluations and testing services?
Most private insurance plans will cover some form of psychological assessment services. We accept most private insurance plans (no Kaiser, MODA, or Lifewise). My office manager calls to verify insurance coverage and will provide an estimate on what your particular plan covers. You may be required to pay a deductible, co-insurance, and/or co-pays. Unfortunately, we do not accept Medicaid or state insurance plans. I get frequent emails from potential clients asking about what their insurance plan will cover. Please understand that we have no way of knowing this until you call and provide us with your specific plan information. We accept the following insurance plans currently: Aetna Blue Cross Blue Shield Cigna First Choice Health Health Net Humana MHN Optum PacificSource Premera Providence Regence TRICARE UnitedHealthcare

  • How much do out-of-pocket evaluations cost?
The answer to this question will vary depending on what I am evaluating, e.g., Autism, ADHD, both, or other diagnoses. Every evaluation starts with a one-hour intake appointment ($250). At the end of the intake appointment, we will calculate the cost of the evaluation. This amount will be provided to you prior to your evaluation session. The majority of my evaluations fall within the range of $1100-$1900 (not including the $250 intake appointment).
  • My primary care provider and/or therapist said that I'm not Autistic.  Should I still get evaluated?
Unfortunately, many primary care providers, psychiatrists, therapists, teachers, and even psychologists aren't very knowledgeable about the various presentations of autism. It's just not a significant part of many training programs. While I wish these providers would just disclose their lack of expertise on the matter, they are often quick to offer an uninformed opinion. There are also a lot of misconceptions about autism, especially the female presentation. For example, just because you have friends and can look people in the eye doesn't mean you aren't autistic or neurodivergent. I find that most of my assessment clients have done a lot of research and are quite knowledgeable about autism. If you've been told you aren't autistic, but you disagree, don't give up!
  • Do you accept medicaid or state insurance?
No, I do not accept medicaid or state insurance. We've tried, but it hasn't worked out in the past. I'm not aware of any psychological assessment/testing options that accept these insurance plans. If you are aware of any options, please let me know.
  • Do you offer payment plans?
We prefer to collect all out-of-pocket expenses at the time of the evaluation. We are open to short-term, case-by-case payment plans. However, all assessment fees need to be paid prior to the diagnostic evaluation report being released to you or any designated healthcare provider (e.g., a prescriber).
  • What does a typical assessment process look like?
The process starts by calling Neeley Psychological Services at (360) 583-4900 and scheduling your initial one-hour intake appointment, which can be completed in-person or via telehealth in 35+ states. Prior to your intake appointment, you will be emailed links to intake paperwork and a mental screener questionnaire (must be completed before the intake appointment). At the intake appointment, your clinician will collect information about your background and symptoms/traits and review the testing process with you. If we are a good fit for each other, we can schedule the actual evaluation session at the end of intake appointment. Evaluation times vary depending on the scope of what we are assessing, but are typically scheduled for 2 hours. Neeley Psychological Services has grown in recent years and now includes other clinicians who assist with the evaluation process. Your evaluation may include interactions with multiple team members. Following your intake appointment, you will be emailed electronic assessment forms that need to be completed at least 48 hours in advance of your evaluation session. The evaluation session may include a mix of cognitive assessments, computer assessments, standardized questionnaires, and interview-based assessments. After the evaluation session is completed, a diagnostic report will be written within a few weeks. You'll receive an electronic copy of your report via a HIPAA-compliant email system. Your report email will also include a link to an electronic release of information (ROI) form. This form needs to be filled out and submitted if you need my office to send your report anywhere (e.g., to your doctor, prescriber, therapist, or anyone else you designate).
  • How do I prepare for the evaluation?
We need you to complete the assessment forms that we'll send to you via email following the intake appointment - that's it. There's nothing else that needs to be done in preparation for the evaluation session. I have found that a significant number of my Autism assessment clients will have compiled documents and lists of Autism-related traits and experiences. You are welcome to email these documents to us in-between the intake appointment and evaluation session - admin@drneeley.com. Please keep these documents to 15 pages or less.
  • What makes your assessment practice different?
Probably the most unique aspect of Neeley Psychological Services is that we specialize in populations that other psychological testing practices don't. There are a lot more psychologists who only assess children for Autism and ADHD. We're the opposite; we specialize in adults and do not assess children or teens under the age of 18 years old. I also specialize in assigned female at birth (AFAB) and gender minority presentations of Autism, which are commonly misunderstood and underdiagnosed. Many females and gender minorities have had their neurodivergent traits and experiences invalidated or diminished by healthcare professions throughout their lives. They are often misdiagnosed with things like Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) or Bipolar Disorders. Another important aspect of our assessment practice is that most of our evaluations are paid (or partially paid) through private insurance. Many assessment psychologists only accept out-of-pocket payments, presumably because they don't know how to bill insurance or don't have access to the right kind of billing services. Finally, Neeley Psychological Services has a very fast turnaround time, from initial intake appointment to final diagnostic report. I don't know why wait times are so long at most clinics that do psychological testing, but we've never had that problem. We been fine-tuning our processes and procedures for years, which has resulted in a quick and efficient assessment process.
  • What types of evaluations do you perform?
Neeley Psychological Services generally focuses on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). We also regularly conduct assessments for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Our evaluations are very specialized. We don't provide comprehensive assessments to explore every possible DSM-V diagnosis that someone may qualify for. We do not specialize in bipolar disorders, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, most personality disorders, or learning disorders.
  • Do you evaluate children?
No, we specialize in adults only (ages 18+ years old).
  • I want to get my teenage child evaluated. What should I do?
My practice specializes in diagnostic evaluations for adults only (ages 18+). My former clinic, Adventure Psychological Services, has clinicians that assess teenagers. They can be reached at: 360-718-6548.
  • I want to get my spouse or partner evaluated. What should I do?
My first question would be - "Does your partner want to be evaluated?" I'm okay with people trying to help their loved ones to find providers and access services. However, I try to avoid situations where someone is being evaluated only to satisfy the desires of someone else, such as a spouse/partner or a therapist. The assessment process can be challenging when someone doesn't want to be evaluated. It is hard to get accurate assessment data when someone isn't motivated and invested in the process. I also believe in client autonomy and do not want to force diagnoses on clients who aren't seeking them. If your spouse/partner is genuinely interested and wants to go through the process, I'd be happy to help. I would prefer that they initiate the process, including contacting my office to ask questions and schedule the initial intake appointment: (360) 583-4900.
  • Do you evaluate clients in other states?
Yes, we are licensed in Washington and Oregon and are also a member of the The Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT), which allows us to provide telehealth/remote evaluation services for clients in 35+ states. See the following map to determine if your state participates in the PSYPACT: https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/psypactmap Please note that some situations require an in-office evaluation. For example, if you are applying for disability income, the agency may require cognitive/IQ testing. Cognitive/IQ testing requires an in-office appointment. If you are seeking a diagnosis to qualify for a particular program or service, you are responsible for determining what that program or service requires.
  • Do you provide therapy or counseling services?
I do not provide therapy or counseling services. However, other providers associated with Neeley Psychological Services may be accepting new therapy clients. You can locate therapists/counselors in the following directory: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists
